YOGA is an ancient system of practices originating in India over 5000 years ago. YOGA is aimed at integrating mind, body and spirit to enhance health and wellbeing. The ultimate aim of YOGA is to achieve a state of balance and harmony between mind and body, moving away from anxiety and turmoil toward peace and stillness.

If you practice YOGA, you will feel good.

Yoga is designed to bring us to a sense of union and wholeness. All physical yoga is called HATHA YOGA. Ha means Sun and THA means Moon in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. YOGA means to join together or to "yolk" together. Thus, Hatha Yoga or physical yoga, is a way of uniting the polarities that compose the duality of our existence. YOGA helps us to join together the various pieces of ourselves, to come home to ourselves, to remember who we really are. We awaken that connection to our self and to the larger self that leads to greater peace, contentment, wellbeing and fulfillment. When we begin to practice this on the Yoga mat, we find it happening more in our lives.

There are various styles of teaching YOGA, each one enhancing self-development and self-awareness. You will have to decide which YOGA is the best fit for you at this time in your life.

Class Descriptions:

Beginner Meditation: (Offered periodically) An experiential and educational program in meditation practice geared to bring the busy mind into moment-to-moment awareness. Emphasis is on mindfulness meditation. Introduction to yoga for meditation, the body scan, mindfulness, walking meditation, eating meditation. Students should plan on being still for periods of time.

Very Beginner Yoga: This class is designed for those new to yoga, those with limitations of any sort and those who are a bit shy of trying yoga. This is a friendly class with an emphasis on body/mind/spirit awareness. A beginning centering, warm ups, simple yoga postures and deep relaxation form the core of this class.

Bigger Bodies Yoga:
If you have been interested in yoga but it seems like a daunting leap, join us for this introduction to a gentle practice.  Classes include discussion of yoga, as well as modifications and adjustments to comfort.  The objective is connecting with the body while bringing movement physically and relaxation to the mind.  Katharine King, the instructor, a Vermont native, is personally experienced with having a larger body in a yoga class and understand deeply the possible challenges and concerns that might be present for you.  Yoga truly is for everyone and we ar here to advance this truth!!!!

Chair Yoga:

Easy Does It Yoga:
This class will focus on the Sanskrit meaning of the word "asana", steady and at ease.
We will explore coming to a place of steadiness and ease in all our postures.

Restorative Yoga:
During this class you will melt into soothing, well-supported poses that bring the body, mind and spirit into greater balance. Using props such as bolsters and blankets we will create a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. Restorative poses have the ability to leave you nourished and well rested, offering you the opportunity to linger quietly in the simple sweetness of life. To deepen your experience, Thai Massage is sprinkled into each pose, making this class the perfect balance for any busy lifestyle.

Vinyasa Flow: Vinyasa Flow yoga is a popular, evolving form of traditional Hatha yoga that focuses on integrating breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility. Vinyasa Flow moves the body through its entire range of motion, linking the poses together on the wave of the breath. A student begins where they are and gradually is drawn towards strength, flexibility, alignment and balance of the body in service of individual connection with spirit. Classes will include asana (postures), Victorious Breath (ujjaii pranayam), drishti (gaze placement for concentration and inner and outer balance), bandhas (locks). Come to class to learn more. ALL LEVELS WELCOME.

Deep Integrative Relaxation (Yoga Nidra). This 4 week class will draw you into a state of being where you are fully alert and deeply relaxed, as if asleep and awake at the same time. In this state, one is able to access and harness usually unconscious inner resources for healing at all levels. At the simplest level, you will learn how to relax very deeply. Although we all intuitively recognize that relaxation is the beginning of the solution to almost any problem, very few of us know how to find that confident level of relaxation. This class will change your life.
